How To Style A Bed

There’s no wrong or right way to style a bed however, there are definitely some tips and tricks that will help you easily put together a beautiful looking bed. Not only is how your bed looks important, but we also make sure comfort is at the forefront of all our styling choices. So, to help you put together a bed that looks like it’s been plucked from a Brighton display home our Interior Stylist has put together her top tips on how to style a bed.

Use a Doona That Is Full of Volume

You want a bed that not only looks like a cloud but also feels like a cloud and the key to achieving that look is through volume! Hello, volume-filled doona! If you’re worried about the Queensland heat opt for a doona made of natural fibers, filled with something like wool or feather and encased in 100% cotton for breathability. This will keep you warm in the cooler months and cool in the warmer months.

Layer!

When layering your pillows and decorative cushions, start with the largest towards the back and the smallest at the front. You can also use your standard pillows as a base to prop up your euro cushions. Layering your bed is so important when we are talking about comfort and aesthetics.

To Chop Or Not To Chop?

This is quite a polarising question, but at Brighton, we stand by the all-important pillow chop. It helps add texture and interest while making a space look lived in and not too staged.

Pull Your Colour Palette From Your Room

When creating a colour palette, pull your colours from artwork, paint, and other décor and finishes in your room. Ensure it all ties in together and doesn’t compete.

Use Feather Filled Cushions For Your Decorative Pillows

Feather filled cushions not only look like a cloud, they feel like a cloud. By using feather filled cushions you can easily achieve the important pillow chop!

It's All About Process!

When making your bed once you’ve put your base sheets on start with your pillows and layer down! Once you have perfectly assembled and chopped (or not!) your pillows and cushions, then add your doona. To add volume and ensure the pillows can shine, fold the doona back and roll-up. Then finish off your bed with a throw or two!

Use a Throw to Complete Your Bed

A throw is a perfect way to add colour and texture not only to your bed but to your entire room. Throws not only add another layer of comfort but also help tie your bed into the rest of your room.
